What is a Type 1 ZK-EVM?

Various ZK-EVM types balance compatibility and proof generation costs differently. A Type 1 ZK-EVM favors compatibility, even if it means higher proof generation costs. Referred to as “Ethereum-equivalent,” a Type 1 ZK-EVM mirrors Ethereum’s architecture closely, without altering elements like the hash function, state trees, or gas costs. This close resemblance enables the reuse of execution clients with only slight modifications.

Does Taiko have a sequencer?

Taiko stands out by not having a dedicated L2 sequencer; instead, it allows anyone to propose blocks in a permissionless manner. In this unique setup, the Ethereum validator responsible for the current L1 block acts as the sequencer, capable of sequencing multiple L2 blocks. This approach is commonly known as a based rollup.

Is Taiko open source?

Yes, Definetly Taiko is open source under the permissive MIT license (free to access and modify). The Geth fork (taiko-geth) retains the original Geth GPL licenses.

I run a node during a previous testnet do I need to do anything different?

Yes, the lastest testnet (Katla) is deployed against Holesky. So you can shut down your Sepolia archive node, and spin up a Holesky archive node. You can also shut down your Taiko (Jolnir) node and run a Taiko (Katla) node.
